A picture I snapped of our Westie, Stella, snoozing on top of the couch. It’s hard to have a posh life!
Active Volcano, don’t stand too close!
Talk about misfortune….
MOUNT ST. HELENS, Wash. – A climber fell into the crater on Mount St. Helens Monday afternoon.
Apparently, the 50-year-old climber was about 5 feet from the edge on a cornice when it gave way at about 1 p.m.
A helicopter in the area, contracted by USGS, responded and was able to locate the man on a 45-degree snow slope about 100 yards below the crater rim.
Undersheriff Dave Cox says the helicopter was unable to pick him up because of high winds and whiteout conditions.
A Coast Guard rescue helicopter has been called in and also attempted the rescue.
An attempt to get a medic down to the victim failed due to the high angle and falling rocks and dangerous conditions.
Rescue crews have suspended their rescue effort for the night and will resume at daybreak.
A ground rescue team has been organized.

Mystery Pin
I was cleaning my attic this weekend and while vacuuming the floor out from below an old vinyl floor section emerged this mysterious pin.

Königsstuhl also known as "Kings Chair"
The text on the pin reads “Königsstuhl” which translates to “King’s Chair”. There are several references to this term on Google, one of which is a park founded in 1990 with the same name. Considering the age of our house and the coloring of the pin I believe this is much, much older.
344 pounds
I’ve been following this guy Tyler for a while over at 334 pounds. Tyler started his blog to track his weight loss, like an interactive journal. What a great use for a blog. He just made is 100lb mark so I wanted to congratulate him for doing what I have not been able to yet which is to find a weight loss system I can stick to and have consistent results.
So Tyler’s overall goal is to lose 150 pounds by the end of 2009. At this rate he’ll obviously make that happen but that’s probably when the real challenge starts; keeping it off. Our society is designed for you to become a big, fat slob – sitting on your ass in the car, at your computer, on the coach, at work and so on. It’s really easy to gain the weight and that much harder to lose it. Keep up the great work Tyler! [334pounds.com]
Too Much?
Well I guess if you need to take the focus off your face but this really is too much!
Teen claims 303,398 iPhone texts in one month
You need a peculiar set of half-formed, skinny fingers to text on an iPhone.
And you need a peculiar set of strangely-formed cranial connections to send and receive 303,398 texts on it in one month.

9,787 texts a day, 407 texts an hour, 6.7 texts a minute -
Basically 7 texts a minute every hour of every day for the full month!
That’s just ridiculous!
Pwetty gurls

Release note from Beta 1 release:
The first public beta of WordPress 2.7 is here at last. Join the thousands of people already testing 2.7 by downloading 2.7 Beta 1. As previously mentioned on this blog, 2.7 is bringing a new visual design. This design is almost completely implemented, but there are still a few areas that aren’t quite finished in Beta 1. There are also several glitches in certain browsers. Beta 1 provides the best experience in Firefox and Safari. Don’t worry, we are working on IE and Opera and will have those looking good in time for the final release.
Speaking of the final release, it will not be available on November 10th as originally scheduled. We are two weeks behind schedule at the moment. We need a little more time to finish the visual design, do a round of user testing against that finished design, and do a proper round of public beta testing. Our plan is to keep working as if Nov. 10 is still the release date. However, instead of releasing the final 2.7 on the 10th, we will make a release candidate available instead. The release candidate is intended to be a high-quality, almost-finished release that we are comfortable recommending for broad use. After Nov. 10, the focus will be on fixing high impact bugs turned up by those of you testing the release candidate. I suspect 2.7 will be ready for final release by the end of November. A specific date will be set as we progress through the public beta cycle and get a feel for how solid the release is.
Norway drops bid to host 2018 Winter Olympics
Norway drops bid to host 2018 Winter Olympics due to estimated costs
OSLO, Norway — Norway has dropped plans to bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics after new estimates doubled the projected cost of hosting the Games in the Arctic city of Tromsoe. ((Tromsø))
Silly Canadians, it’s Tromsø!
“It was a difficult decision,” Tove Paule, president of the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports, said Monday.
Last week, a government-commissioned study estimated that the cost of hosting the 2018 Games would be about 29 billion kroner (C$5.1 billion), or nearly double the figure used by the Tromsoe ((again…Tromsø)) organizing committee.
That’s a bummer… Well at least we still have this!
